Natural hair colors
Natural hair colors is hair dye that contain ingredients derived from nature. These include plant-based preservatives and dyes that create beautiful and long-lasting hair colors without the use of harmful additives such as ammonia, parabens and SLS. This ensures a more sustainable hair color.
There are many benefits to using plant-based hair colors. First of all, it helps to preserve your hair's natural moisture and lipids, which helps with dryness and scalp irritation. In addition, natural hair color uses fewer chemical additives, which reduces the risk of allergic reactions.
What makes NATURIGIN hair colors natural?
Our unique hair colors are natural because 96.3% of the ingredients are certified organic or of natural origin. The hair colors are free from ammonia, parabens and silicone, but it's our 12 organic oils and extracts that make our hair colors natural.
The natural extracts and oils are derived from various organic fruits and plants, including aloe vera, argan, peach and many more. Each ingredient has been carefully selected as they each provide special properties. Together they help to give your hair strength, moisture and shine and stimulate hair growth. This will reduce dryness and irritation on the scalp, increase hair elasticity and leave it soft and shiny. The oils from orange, grapefruit and lemon also give your hair a fresh citrus scent. Together, the 12 oils contribute to a more gentle colouring of your hair and ensure that your hair gets the best conditions to thrive.
The 12 natural oils and extracts:
The extract is extracted from the leaves of the aloe vera plant. Aloe vera has cooling and protective properties on the skin and scalp and is anti-inflammatory. Aloe vera also contains various vitamins and minerals that care for hair and skin. It also moisturises the hair and reduces irritation.
Argania spinosa kernel oil comes from the kernel of the argan fruit. It's packed with antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamin E, which help argan oil revitalise skin and hair. It is a moisturising oil that increases hair elasticity and restores shine.
Shea butter is a natural emollient and conditioning agent for skin and hair. Its fatty acid composition helps protect the skin and scalp from dryness and UV rays.
Citrus aurantium dulcis is extracted from orange peel. It acts as a natural conditioner that nourishes hair and adds shine. It leaves your hair healthy with a fresh citrus scent.
Citrus grandis oil comes from the skin of the grapefruit. It is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and adds a fresh citrus scent to cosmetic products.
Citrus medica limonum is extracted from the rind of the lemon. The extract stimulates hair growth and can slow hair loss. It is easily absorbed into the hair and cleanses the scalp. In addition, it leaves a lovely citrus flavour.
Soya protein is extracted from soya beans. It contains a rich blend of protein, minerals and vitamins B and E, leaving hair soft and shiny.
Apricot kernel oil consists primarily of glycerides from fatty acids as well as vitamins A, C and E. It is particularly suitable for hair care products as it is a mild and moisturising oil that is easily absorbed into the hair and scalp.
Prunus persica kerneolie udvindes af kernen i ferskner. Næringsstofferne i ferskenkerneolie hjælper med at beskytte skadede hårspidser. Ferskenkerneolie lindrer tør hovedbund og hjælper med at fjerne skæl.
Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of jojoba. It smoothes and conditions hair and seals it with a protective barrier to prevent it from losing moisture. It also acts as a source of heat protection.
Wheat extract creates a moisture barrier in your hair to protect it from heat damage when styling with blow dryers, curling irons, straighteners and more. It is a natural hair conditioning agent that softens hair and reduces tangles.
Grapeseed oil is a light oil that doesn't weigh hair down when used. Like other oils, grapeseed oil helps to give hair shine, strength and moisture. However, it is especially used to boost hair growth as it contains the fatty acid linoleic acid, which contributes to healthy hair growth.
Who can use natural hair colors?
Anyone can do it! Whether your hair is thick, thin or curly, you can use natural products to colour it. If you have exceptionally long and thick hair, it's a good idea to use two boxes for one colour. If you want to mask grey hair, permanent natural hair colors can also give you a beautiful and opaque result.
If you find that your hair is fragile and worn out, be careful about colouring it. Although natural hair colors have minimal chemical content and offer a gentle treatment, it's still important to strengthen your hair. To strengthen your hair before you colour it, introduce a mild shampoo and a moisturising conditioner to your hair routine. Next, you can also reduce the use of straighteners or curling irons to prevent heat damage to your hair. Finally, consider how you normally style your hair as some hairstyles, especially braids and ponytails, can result in breakage and wear and tear. We completely understand that loose hair can be annoying, especially in the summer, so an alternative is to create a loose updo and use soft elastics.
If you're pregnant and want to mask colour fading, you also need to be careful. We recommend that you do not colour your hair during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you do want to colour your hair, you should consult your doctor.
Are all natural hair colors cruelty free?
No, they are not. If you are looking for a cruelty-free product, we recommend reading the packaging carefully before using it. It will clearly state whether the product has been tested on animals.
Whether a hair color is cruelty-free also depends on where it is produced. In the EU, it is illegal to test cosmetic products on animals. Therefore, all beauty products produced in EU countries are cruelty-free. However, this is not a requirement in the US or Asia, which means that products exported to the EU can be tested on animals.
NATURIGIN has never been tested on animals. We do not support animal testing.
Hair color without ammonia and parabens
When you choose to use natural hair colours, you're also opting out of ammonia and parabens. But what does this mean for your hair? Permanent hair colours contain an ingredient that opens up the hair strands so the colour can penetrate. Ammonia is often used for this purpose. However, ammonia is a very aggressive chemical that has an unpleasant odour, irritates the scalp and can strip moisture from the hair. It can also cause a strong allergic reaction. Parabens are used as a preservative to prevent bacterial and fungal growth in the product, but they are potential endocrine disruptors. Over time, these additives can harm both you and your hair.
In contrast, natural hair colours use organic extracts and natural oils that protect the hair during colouring and nourish your hair. Ammonia-free and paraben-free hair colours therefore preserve the health of your hair and scalp. However, in order to create a permanent hair colour, a substance must be used that can open the hair shaft to make it receptive to the colour. At NATURIGIN, we have chosen to use a small amount of PPD, which makes it possible to open the hair strands so that the hair colour sticks and cannot be washed out of the hair. Fortunately, there are many regulations governing the use of PPD, which means that the amount of PPD used is approved and safe for you.

Although you can safely use natural hair colors without worrying about ammonia and parabens, some people may still have allergic reactions to certain natural ingredients and the small amount of PPD. Therefore, it's always a good idea to read the ingredient list carefully before using a new product. To minimise the risk of allergic reactions with our hair colors, we at NATURIGIN always recommend that you patch test the color before applying it to your hair. This way you can have peace of mind when using our hair color.

Recommendations and important information before hair coloring
Before you embark on home hair coloring, you probably have a lot of questions about our hair color and how it works. Here's a short guide on how to use our product and ensure a great result. If this is your first time trying home hair coloring, we recommend that you read our "Hair Color Guide", which contains much more information about coloring with our hair color. But here's a brief summary of our recommendations, which are also included in the guide.
Patch Test before using hair color
Before you start coloring, we always recommend a patch test. This ensures that you are not allergic to our hair color. Apply a small amount of mixture behind the ear 48 hours before the first hair coloring. If no allergic reactions occur, you can safely color your hair. Further information about the patch test can be found in our guide covering application, reactions, etc.
Results may vary
The final color result may vary, as your current hair color plays a crucial role in the outcome. A permanent hair color box is therefore not always indicative of how the color will look on your hair. This is due to the pigments we have in our hair, which give slightly different results. If you are not completely satisfied with the result, we offer a satisfaction guarantee that you can use within 30 days. This way, we can resolve any issues and correct the result to your expectations.
Dyeing for a lighter hair colour
If it's your first time lightening your hair, we recommend staying within 2 color shades. This ensures that the color is absorbed properly and that you avoid discoloration during the coloring process. If you want a further lightening of more than 3 shades, we recommend that you color your hair over several passes. Hair coloring is a process, so start with a color within 2 shades and next time choose a color that is 2 tones lighter than the previous one to gradually achieve the desired result. Patience is important if you want to end up with a beautiful and natural result.
Coloring for a darker hair color
If you want to dye your hair darker, we recommend a color that is max. 3-4 tones darker than your current hair color. The process is generally easier than lightening your hair, so it's best to start with a darker color if you're a beginner. But as long as you take it slow, it's just as easy to dye your hair blonde.
Although you have one more tone to choose from when colouring your hair darker, we still recommend staying within the first 3 tones for best results.
Although you have one more tone to choose from when coloring your hair darker, we still recommend staying within the first 3 tones for best results.
Always follow our advice and recommendations for the best results, whether you go lighter or darker. For major changes, we recommend patience and gradual coloring to avoid significant color jumps. If you're struggling to find the right color, feel free to contact us via email with pictures of your hair. We will be happy to guide you to ensure the best home coloring result.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
A permanent hair color is a color that stays in the hair. This means that the color doesn't fade or wash out with shampoo and water like rinse-out colors do. Rinse-out color is often referred to as a semi-permanent hair dye, henna or a shampoo with color in it that you need to use every time you wash your hair.
With permanent hair color, you ensure your hair stays the color you add to it, so you don't have to worry about it fading after every wash. Our hair colors last for 6 weeks, depending on which color you choose to use. If you have any questions about our hair color, please contact us at kundeservice@NATURIGIN.dk.
Permanent colors provide an opaque and long-lasting result until the hair grows out again. A permanent hair color needs to be touched up about every 6 weeks if you want to avoid highly visible graying. If you have a dark hair color, we recommend NATURIGIN Root Touch Up, which can cover up your brown spots and extend the life of your hair colour.
One box of NATURIGIN hair color contains enough color for most people's needs, but if you have exceptionally long and thick hair, it's a good idea to use two boxes for one color.
Hair coloring can usually lift 2-3 tones. For a good result, it is therefore important to choose a color that stays within this range. If you want to make a more drastic change, such as going from black to a very light blonde, we recommend that you go to the hairdresser. You can gradually dye your hair lighter so that you can eventually achieve your dream color yourself. However, this will take time, depending on how big of a jump you want, so if you are unsure about the colour, please contact us at kundeservice@naturigin.com.
Our hair colors have minimal chemical content (PPD) and are suitable for those who have experienced allergic reactions with other hair colors. However, some people may be allergic to certain ingredients in hair color. Therefore, it's always a good idea to read the ingredient list carefully before using a new product. To minimise the risk of allergic reactions with our hair colors, we at NATURIGIN always recommend that you patch test the color before applying it to your hair.
Generally, you can use NATURIGIN color in colored hair, as our hair colors are 100% opaque and permanent.
What you should be aware of, however, is that the outcome of a hair color is generally affected by the color the hair already has, and therefore the color can change character depending on the starting point. The outcome is also affected by the amount of chemicals, if any, the previous color contained.
We do not recommend using our hair color if you have used henna dye. Henna contains some chemicals and salts that can cause discolouration. We therefore recommend that you first get all henna dye out of your hair before using our hair dye.
